MATHS

BUILDING CONFIDENCE, ONE EQUATION AT A TIME

At Fusion Learn, we understand that maths isn't just about numbers—it's about confidence, logical thinking, and problem-solving. Our tailored maths tuition empowers learners across all abilities to overcome barriers, close knowledge gaps, and rediscover a sense of achievement and enjoyment in maths.

We provide structured, compassionate support from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4, as well as specialised tuition for learners working towards Functional Skills Maths from Entry Level 1 through to Level 2. Whether a student is in mainstream education, out of school, or following an alternative education path, Fusion Learn offers flexible, impactful learning tailored to individual needs.

Key Stage 2

At Key Stage 2, our focus is on developing solid mathematical foundations that will carry students into secondary education with confidence. Many students at this stage experience maths anxiety or gaps in understanding, especially if they’ve had interrupted schooling or unmet learning needs.

Our tutors offer:

  • Mastery of Core Concepts: Including place value, number bonds, times tables, written methods for all four operations, and early fractions.

  • Practical, Multi-Sensory Learning: We use concrete materials (like counters, number lines, and fraction tiles), pictorial representations, and real-life examples to make abstract ideas more understandable.

  • Problem Solving and Reasoning: Encouraging deeper thinking and the ability to explain mathematical reasoning clearly.

  • SATs Preparation: For Year 6 pupils, we offer targeted support for SATs, covering arithmetic and reasoning papers through practice questions, strategies, and confidence-building sessions.

  • Catch-Up Intervention: Perfect for students who may have missed chunks of content due to illness, school changes, or SEND-related difficulties.

  •

Each KS2 student receives a personalised learning plan, mapped to both the national curriculum and their unique starting points.

Key Stage 3

The transition into secondary school can be challenging for learners who are already struggling with maths. At KS3, our tutors provide support that bridges gaps while also preparing students for the increasing complexity of the curriculum.

We focus on:

  • Consolidation of Key Skills: Reinforcing number fluency, proportional reasoning, and methods for calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.

  • Introduction to Abstract Thinking: Helping students grasp the basics of algebra, graphing, and equations with a step-by-step approach.

  • Geometry and Data Handling: Including shapes, angles, perimeter and area, charts, and averages—all taught with practical, visual methods.

  • Developing Problem Solving Techniques: Encouraging strategic thinking and resilience when approaching multi-step problems.

  • Identifying and Addressing Gaps: We regularly assess progress and adjust plans to meet learners exactly where they are—ideal for students who may be working below age-related expectations.

  •

For students in alternative provision or those struggling with attendance, our flexible online and in-person sessions ensure continuity of learning without pressure.

Key Stage 4

GCSE Maths is a pivotal qualification that can unlock future education and employment opportunities. Fusion Learn supports students working at all levels of GCSE—whether they’re aiming for a Grade 4 Foundation pass, or stretching toward higher-tier grades.

Our GCSE maths tuition includes:

  • Complete Curriculum Coverage: All key areas—Number, Algebra, Geometry and Measures, Statistics and Probability, and Ratio and Proportion—are taught in a clear, structured manner.

  • Tailored Foundation or Higher Tier Pathways: Support is fully aligned with the tier the student is entered for, and lessons are adapted to the specific exam board (AQA, Edexcel, OCR).

  • Revision and Exam Preparation: We provide comprehensive guidance on revision strategies, how to tackle past papers, manage time effectively in exams, and use mathematical language confidently.

  • Alternative Provision Support: For students in non-mainstream settings, we provide a calm, supportive environment that builds maths confidence over time—reducing anxiety and improving engagement.

  • Regular Assessment and Feedback: Students and parents receive ongoing feedback so that progress is clear and measurable.

  •

We also support learners taking post-16 GCSE resits, helping them develop both the academic and emotional readiness to achieve the qualification.

Functional Skills

Functional Skills Maths offers a vital route for learners who may struggle with the traditional GCSE pathway or need a qualification with practical, real-world application. These nationally recognised qualifications provide an alternative that’s equally valuable in the eyes of employers and further education providers.

Entry Levels 1, 2 & 3

Ideal for students with significant learning needs, EAL learners, or those re-engaging with education. We focus on:

  • Basic Numeracy: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division

  • Everyday Maths Skills: Understanding money, time, dates, lengths, and weights

  • Building Blocks for Progression: Designed to lead naturally into Level 1 and 2

Level 1

Roughly equivalent to GCSE Grade 1–3. Content includes:

  • Fractions, decimals, percentages, and ratio

  • Perimeter, area, volume

  • Using data: tables, graphs, and charts

  • Problem solving in work and everyday life contexts

Level 2

Equivalent to GCSE Grade 4 and a common requirement for further education or apprenticeships. Learners will:

  • Master calculations with complex numbers and operations

  • Apply skills in budgeting, measurement, and interpreting data

  • Tackle extended problem-solving tasks with accuracy and confidence

How Functional Skills Mirrors the National Curriculum:

While Functional Skills focuses on practical applications, the content closely overlaps with the National Curriculum for Maths, especially in arithmetic, measure, and data. Many learners benefit from the contextualised, real-world scenarios offered by Functional Skills, making it a perfect fit for those who have found traditional classroom maths inaccessible.
